Abundance: Rare
Length:22-24 cm, Wing Span:37-42 cm

Adult: Brown above, gray face and breast densely spotted with white, pale brown-yellow undertail coverts. Mostly yellow bill with red base; greenish legs.
Juvenile: Pale face, white chin and throat, white spots on breast and flanks, greenish bill.
Similar Species: Differs from Baillon's and Little Crakes by larger size and pale undertail coverts.
Behavior: Secretive; flicks tail while walking or swimming.
Habitat: Marshes, slow streams.
Food: Aquatic insects, plants.
Nest: Platform of aquatic plants near water.
Eggs: 34 mm, 10-12, olive-brown, red-brown spots.
