Length:27-30 cm, Wing Span:46-53 cm

Description: Red-brown upperwing and dangling legs in weak fluttering flight. Pale gray-brown with dark streaks above, light reddish-brown and white bars on flanks, pinkish bill.
Behavior: Extremely secretive; stays in dense cover, constantly giving a rasping two-note call.
Habitat: Mountain steppe, damp meadows, hay meadows, cultivated fields.
Food: Insects, seeds.
Nest: Grassy cup on ground.
Eggs: 37 mm, 8-12, pale blue to dull yellow-brown, purple spots.
