| Description: | Yellow eyes, broad ear tufts. Delicate black streaks on a complex pattern of fine bars below. |
| Similar Species: | Differs from Little Owl by slimmer body, ear tufts, and finely barred and streaked underparts. |
| Behavior: | Nocturnal. Far-carrying whistle is repeated every few seconds. |
| Habitat: | Woodlands, orchards, forest edges. |
| Food: | Invertebrates, small rodents. |
| Nest: | Cavity in tree or building; old nest of crow. |
