Resident Status: Breeding bird
Abundance: Uncommon
Length:12.5 cm, Wing Span:21-24 cm

Description: Short tail, black bill and legs, and orange breast.
Adult (Breeding): Male has brown-black upperparts; white supercilium and mustache and white wing patches. Female is duller with pale brown-yellow supercilium.
Adult (Non-breeding): Both sexes similar to breeding female but with broad pale edges above.
Juvenile: Dull brown above with white spots; throat and breast mottled brown.
Similar Species: Differs from Common Stonechat by well-defined supercilium.
Behavior: Perches on plants and fences to scan for prey.
Habitat: Mountain meadows; widespread on migration.
Food: Invertebrates, some seeds.
Nest: Grassy cup on ground.
Eggs: 19 mm, 4-7, pale brown.
