Adult: | Brown-gray with brown-red streaks on flanks, white tips on black wing coverts and tail, and bright yellow base of bill. Throat barred black and white. |
Juvenile: | Duller and browner; yellowish tips on wings and tail. |
Similar Species: | Differs from Dunnock by larger size and red-brown flank streaks. |
Behavior: | Often feeds at edge of snow patches. Preens and sunbathes on top of rocks. |
Habitat: | Rocky alpine area; lower in winter. |
Food: | Invertebrates. |
Nest: | Cup in crevices of rock or under shrub. |
Eggs: | 23 mm, 3-4, pale blue. |
