Length:14.5 cm, Wing Span:23-26 cm

Description: Dark overall with red-orange outertail and rear body. Male: black breast, face, and throat; white wing patch. Female: plain gray-brown lacking contrast between back and breast.
Similar Species: Female differs from other female redstarts by darker color lacking contrast between back and breast.
Behavior: Quivers tail when perched.
Habitat: Rocky slopes, urban areas.
Food: Invertebrates, fruit.
Nest: Cup of plants in crevice of wall or rock, on ground.
Eggs: 19 mm, 4-6, white, rarely pale blue.
