Abundance: Uncommon
Length:90-100 cm, Wing Span:165-185 cm
Distribution Map: Map 97.
Adult: Uniformly gray with black face and foreneck extending down to breast plumes. Loose tuft forms a white stripe from behind eye to nape of neck. Gray crown.
Juvenile: Gray head lacking adult facial pattern.
Similar Species: Differs from Common Crane by lack of broad plumes over tail. In flight, can look very similar to Common Crane but shows black on breast.
Behavior: Appears more graceful than Common Crane. Often migrates at night and flies in V-formation.
Habitat: Pastures and wet meadows near lakes and ponds, often close to human settlements.
Food: Plants, insects, small vertebrates.
