Length:38-44 cm, Wing Span:55-69 cm

Description: Male: largely white with black mask, nape, and back, and fine black lines on sides of breast and flanks. Rear flanks vermiculated pale gray. Female: reddish brown upper head and nape, white lower face, and gray body
Similar Species: Female differs from female Mergansers and Common Goldeneye by extensive white lower face, small bill, and white forewing patch.
Behavior: Agile swimmer and flier.
Habitat: Ponds, lakes, larger rivers.
Food: Fish.
