Location of Armenia

The Republic of Armenia lies at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, between the Black and Caspian seas. The geographic area of modern Armenia is 29,793 sq km (11,505 sq mi). Armenia is approximately the size of Belgium (30,536 sq km), and moderately smaller than the state of Maryland (32,100 sq km) in the United States of America. The climate in Armenia is cool in fall, cold in winter, moist and pleasant in spring, and hot and dry in summer. Temperatures range from a low of -26 °C (-15°F) in alpine mountain meadows to a high of 40°C (104°F) in semidesert. Annual precipitation averages 55 cm (22 in), with most rainfall occurring in spring and early summer. Elevation ranges from 450-4,090 m (1,476-13,419 ft) above sea level.
