Length:27-30 cm, Wing Span:71-83 cm

Description: Big-headed plover with black axillaries visible in flight. Black bill is short, thick, and straight.
Adult (Breeding): Black mantle with white bars and spots, black flanks and underparts, white undertail coverts and rump.
Adult (Non-breeding): Gray speckled with dark and white above, grayish-white below.
Juvenile: Pale edgings to brown-black feathers. Head, throat, breast, and flanks streaked with gray-brown.
Similar Species: Eurasian Golden-Plover.
Behavior: Feeds on mudflats, pausing for long periods between short fast runs.
Habitat: Shallow lake shores, mudflats, cultivated fields.
Food: Invertebrates.
