| Adult: |
Blackish mantle and wings. In flight shows a single small white patch on outermost primary. Yellow legs. Bill is long and yellow with a red spot. |
| First Winter: |
Black bill, pink legs. In flight, shows whitish rump, mostly dark tail, and uniformly dark greater coverts and flight feathers. |
| Similar Species: |
Adult is the only black-backed, yellow-legged gull in Armenia. Juvenile differs from other gulls by uniform dark upperwing. |

Often associates with other large gulls. Flight is buoyant and agile. |
