Abundance: Uncommon
Length:44-52 cm, Wing Span:70-84 cm

Description: A distinctively long wide flattened bill. Male: green head, white neck and breast, red-brown belly, black undertail coverts. Female: mottled brown with orange-edged dark bill. Both sexes have pale blue forewing visible in flight.
Behavior: Swims low in water with head near water surface. Often feeds in compact flocks.
Habitat: Lakes with reeds and cattails, rivers, fish ponds.
Food: Aquatic vegetation, invertebrates.
